We are excited to share the first edition of the SIGA (Seniors in Green Action) newsletter, highlighting the latest developments and goals of our Erasmus+ KA2 project.
The SIGA project is dedicated to empowering older adults (54+) with practical knowledge on medicinal wild plants, focusing on sustainable harvesting and natural health solutions.
What is SIGA All About?
The SIGA project aims to create an educational program that enables seniors to:
- Learn how to responsibly collect medicinal wild plants while preserving their natural habitats
- Discover how to make herbal preparations for health and well-being
- Spend quality time outdoors, engaging in lifelong learning and social inclusion
- Increase environmental awareness and contribute to their local communities
The Home Herbal Pharmacy Programme
One of the key outcomes of the SIGA project is the Home Herbal Pharmacy Programme, an innovative training program developed by project partners. This blended learning experience includes:
- Theoretical Classes – understanding plant properties, sustainability, and ethical foraging
- Field Classes – hands-on excursions to practice responsible plant collection
- Practical Workshops – creating herbal remedies from self-harvested wild plants
Pilot Testing in Five Countries
The Home Herbal Pharmacy Programme will be piloted in five partner countries: Croatia, Italy, Latvia, Spain, and Cyprus. A total of 60 seniors (12 per country) will participate in this engaging and interactive training, helping us refine the program before making it available to a wider audience.
